About commodities

Commodities respond to both macroeconomic forces and their own supply and demand. Gold and silver are heavily influenced by real interest rates and the dollar; oil and natural gas by production policy, inventories and weather; copper by the industrial cycle and China.

Most benchmark commodity futures trade on CME Group exchanges (COMEX and NYMEX) nearly 24 hours a day, with spot precious metals trading over the counter around the clock on weekdays.
